About Us

Elge Manufacturing began in 1875 in Linkoping, Sweden.

About Us

Elge Technologies LLC is now based in Long Island, NY, USA, continuing the legacy of high quality Swedish designed Heat Exchangers.

Elge developed the world's first shell and coil heat exchanger. The Elge heat exchangers became the leader in the district heating market in Europe by virtue of this technological breakthrough.

Plate & frame had the disadvantage of leaking after long periods of sustained use at high pressure and high temperatures. Shell and tube were limited because of the number of tubes that were required to

Achieve capacities of heat exchange necessary for district heating. Elge developed the idea of constructing the "battery" with copper tubing that was wound in concentric circles.

This relatively simple principle eliminated any leaking by eliminating the need for seals and greatly increased the capacity. One Elge heat exchanger that was approximately five feet high and two feet in diameter had the same capacity of ten tubular bundle type heat exchangers or of a boiler that occupied a thousand cubic feet of space.

The Long History of Elge

Elge was originally founded in 1873 in Linkoping, Sweden. In the early days the company focused on casting components for electrical power distribution equipment. As the company grew, it expanded into the research and development of heat exchangers in the 1950s. The combination of quality engineering and skilled craftsmanship resulted in the first shell and coil heat exchanger being manufactured in 1977. The Elge heat exchangers soon became the leader in the district heating market in Europe by virtue of this technological breakthrough Elge developed the idea of constructing heat exchangers with copper tubing that was wound in concentric circles. This relatively simple principle prevented leaking by eliminating the need for seals and greatly increased the capacity. Elge was bought by the giant conglomerate ASEA-Brown-Bavaria in 1985 (ABB). In the 1990’s Elge expanded into North America, eventually moving operations to Long Island, NY. The Swedish-designed heat exchangers remain a unique, one-of-a-kind design, crafted for longevity and highly efficient performance. Now made in the U.S.A.
